Biography

Elmer Seward Bessey was born on July 8, 1865 in Sterling, Wayne, Ohio, United States, son of Amos J Bessey (1839–1907) and Rebecca Hoff (1831–1923).

Elmer (32) married Susannah Moore (23) (born on June 23, 1874 in Franklin Township, Coshocton, Ohio) on December 23, 1897 in Coffeyville, Montgomery, Kansas, United States. [1]

In the 1870 census Seward (age 5) was in Milton Township, Wayne, Ohio, United States.[2] Amos Bessy 30, Rebecca Bessy 30, Seward Bessy 5, Ida F Bessy 2, Alvin Bessy 1, Samuel Road, Joseph Wolf 26.

In the 1880 census Elmer (age 14), Farm Labor, was the son of Amos J. Bessey in Milton Township, Wayne, Ohio, United States.[3] Amos J. Bessey 41, wife Rebecca Bessey 41, son Elmer S. Bessey 14, daughter Ida F. Bessey 13, son Alvin A. Bessey 11, daughter Cora A. Bessey 8, daughter Eva M. Bessey 4.

In the 1900 census Elmer (age 35) was the married head of household in Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, United States.[4] Elmer A Bessey 35, wife Anna Bessey 25, son Phil Bessey 2.

In the 1910 census Elmer (age 44) was the married head of household in Oklahoma City Ward 7, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, United States.[5] Elmer S Bessey 44, wife Susannah Bessey 35, son Phil V Bessey 11, boarder Lillian Clark 30.

In the 1930 census E (age 65) was the married head of household in El Reno, Canadian, Oklahoma, United States.[6] E S Bessey 65, wife Anna M Bessey 54.

In the 1940 census Elmer (age 75) was the married head of household in Coffeyville, Coffeyville City, Montgomery, Kansas, United States.[7] Elmer S Bessey 75, wife Anna Bessey 66.

Elmer died in June, 1948 in Pawhuska, Osage, Oklahoma, United States, aged 82. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kansas.[8]
