Biography

Although Susannah's gravestone gives her death date as Dec. 29, 1889, several other records list it as 1890: her entombment at the City Tomb, and the Portland City Directory of 1891 lists her as having died Dec. 29, 1890. The grave plot was owned by her son Manley Elliott, so perhaps her gravestone was not commissioned until some years after her death, when memory didn't serve. ∼ City Tomb (defunct) was the receiving vault for Eastern Cemetery and area interments or individual family tombs. The casket was removed later for burial. You may find the actual burial in Eastern Cemetery.
