Biography

Martha Jane Bivens was born to Truman Bivens Dr. and Frances (Graham) Bivens +- 1823 in South Carolina.

She was married to John Burnett Cain 29 March 1840 in Clay, Missouri. (The LDS citation states Platte County).

She and John had 11 children that I located: Margaret A, Mary Elizabeth, twins: Malinda F and Phoebe Ella, Lafayette Burnett (in our line), Caroline Belle, who went by Belle, Newton Jasper, John T., William H., Susan Ella and Martha, her namesake.

Martha Jane was called Martha by her family and signed her name that way in all documents, except for one deed, which she signed Martha Jane.

Martha died February 27, 1904 in Pine City, Washington, and is buried at the Pine City, Washington cemetery. Her gravestone states that she was 80 years 10 months and 21 days old at the time of her death.

Her death was announced in the Colfax Gazette on 11 March 1904.

If I figured correctly based on her days and months listed on her gravestone she was born +-April 6, 1823.
