Knut was born about 1563 at Øvre Bjørheim in Strand. He married Udbjørg Tormodsdatter from Foss, Hjelmeland, and had six children with her: Berta, Elen, Bjørn, Åsa, Guri, and Sissel.[1]
He received a fine in 1603 for pulling Ole Vastveit's hair and hitting him so he bled from the mouth. Knut paid land taxes from 1603 and into the 1660s; much of the property the tax was based on was outside Bjørheim. He was one of 24 men who were fined in 1607 for not showing up to sit at court at 'shipsreidetinget'.[1]
He was known as "Gamle Knut".[1]
