Ruth Virginia Black was born on 5 Feb 1925 in Marion County, Illinois, United States, daughter of Leslie Floyd Black (1903–1928) and Eva Viola Williams (1904–1930). Ruth died on 9 Apr 2018 in Geneva, Kane County, Illinois, United States, aged 93 years, 2 months, 4 days. In 1928, Ruth's father passed away and in 1930 her mother passed away suddenly. After her parents death, she was raised by her paternal grandparents and adopted and raised by her maternal Uncle & Aunt, Loren & Lottie.[1]
Ruth was a native of Marion County, Illinois, United States and was a graduate of Alma High School, Alma. She was a homemaker and by 1950, Ruth and her family were residing in Miami, Oklahoma, where she and her husband raised their children and in later years, were chose to be buried.
Ruth was active in civic and religious organizations. Since 1946, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Miami. She participated in NEO Travel Club, Eastern Star and PEO Chapter EJ and enjoyed Letters and Arts, sewing and cooking.[1]
Ruth married John Wiley Chambers in 1941 (based on marriage license in Jun 1941 in newspaper article and Ruth's obit 12 Jun 1941) [citation needed]. Ruth and John were the parents of 2 daughters and 1 son (all living). Prior to John's death, Ruth and John were married for 55 years.
During WWII, John was taken as a POW and held captive for 99 days. On their 4th wedding anniversary, he was able to call her to say he was alive and would be released.[1][2]
After the death of her parents, Ruth was raised by her grandparents (until 1940, when she was adopted by her maternal uncle). In 1930, Ruth (5) was living with her paternal grandparents George & Dora Black and her brother George. Her grandfather was a farmer and they were living in a rented home in Kinmundy, Marion County, Illinois, United States.[3]
By 1940, Ruth (15) is living with her maternal Uncle and Aunt, Loren & Lottie, sister Kathryn, and maternal grandmother Mary. Loren is an operator and they are residing in a rented home in Alma, Marion County, Illinois, United States.[4]
In 1950, Ruth (25) is married and residing with her husband John and 2 daughters in their own home in Miami, Ottawa County, Oklahoma, United States.[5]
Ruth passed away on Monday, 9 Apr 2018 in Geneva, Illinois and burial was in Miami, Oklahoma.
Those left to mourn the loss of Ruth are 2 daughters (and sons-in-law), 1 son (daughter-in-law); 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Ruth in death were her husband, John; parents, Leslie and Eva, two sisters, Kate and Evelyn and two brothers, Junior and Leslie.[1]
Ruth's Celebration of Life service was officiated by Rev. Chuck Horton, Owasso and Rev. Mark Rickman on Saturday, 14 Apr 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Miami, Oklahoma. Ruth's burial service was private.[1]
