Robert and wife Mary were parents to the following children, the first four having been born between 1798 to 1804 to be yet minors but at least 14 in 1818 to choose their guardian, the latter 4 born between 1805 to 1818 requiring Court appointed guardianship. Two additional minor children born to Robert and Mary Van Zandt were named in the will of their father dated 19 September 1834 in Vermilion County, Illinois.
