Biography

Charles was born about 1761. He passed away in 1844.

Charles appears in the NC census records from 1790 to 1830, with the exception of 1800. He may be in the 1800 census under a different spelling of the name. Based on the census records he had sons and daughters but the names of his children have not been found. The name of his wife is also unknown but it would appear from the census records she died between 1820 and 1830.

Charles served in the Revolutionary War as a private in the North Carolina Continental Line, and received a pension for his service. The pension data states he was placed on the pension role on 6 June 1834, at an age of 73. This gives him a birth year of 1761.

Charles received a land grant (#675) of 28.5 acres on Little Cold Water Creek in Mecklenberg County, NC.

In the Cabarrus County Minutes for 1797-1805, it states Charles was given letters of administration for the estate of Catherine Blackwelder, Charles' mother. The estate came to 20 pounds. Unfortunately, no children's names are recorded in the estate settlement, leaving us with no record of the names of Charles' siblings or of any grandchildren of Charles' parents.
