Biography

Grace Bland is a part of US Black heritage.

Grace was born about 1835 probably in Edgefield, South Carolina. Grace and her three children were bequeathed by Avory Bland to his son Elbert Bland.

1857 Will: I also give and bequeath to the said Elbert the following slaves, namely, Isaac his wife Sukey and their four children Victoria, Adavine, Charles, and Pliant; Bill, Henry, Betsey, Sabra, Perry, Prince, Emily, and her child Melissa, Grace and her three children, Dick, Eliza and Edmund; Dave carpenter and Tom Ditcher.

In 1870, Gracy was living in Saluda, Edgefield, South Carolina as a domestic servant with four children: Dick, age 17; Eliza, age 13; Butler Bland, age 8; and Mansur Bland, age 6.

The family lived next to George Bland Bland-3573, age 44; farmer; race: white (son of Avory Bland); and nearby to George Miles Miles-11365, who was also a former slave of Avory Bland.
