Biography

Gertrude Weakley Blean was born in 1899. Her middle name "Weakley" was the name of her grandmother, Hettie Weakley, an early settler of Whiteside, lllinois. Gertrude was the daughter of John Blean and Carrie Moss and attended high school in Morrison which she completed. In 1920 when she was about 20 years old, she was employed as a public school teacher. In1921 she married Ralph Earl (1900-1963), son of Charles Earl and Jennie Knox. The Earls had two sons, William Earl (1923-1978) and John Richard Earl (1934-2003). Judging from various newspaper articles, Gertrude was actively involved in the social life of her community. In 1976 Gertrude passed away in her Erie home.

Services for Mrs. Gertrude Earl, 78, Erie, are 2 p.m. today at Schilling-Reedy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.

Mrs. Earl died Saturday in her home.

Gertrude Blean was born in Newton Township. She married Ralph Earl in 1921 in Erie. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, William, Erie, and John R., Albany; seven grandchildren; four great-grandhildren, and brothers, Miles Blean, Erie, and Stuart Blean, Morrison.
