Reverend Frederick George Blomfield was born on 9 Apr 1823 in Bishopsgate, London, England to Charles James Blomfield and Dorothy (Cox) Blomfield. He was christened at St Botolph's Bishopsgate on 7 May 1823.[1]
Frederick's father was Rector of St Botolph's and also Vicar and Rector of Little Chesterford, Essex at the time of Frederick's birth. He became archdeacon of Colchester in 1822, and in 1824 was raised to the bishopric as Bishop of Chester. In 1828 he was appointed as a Privy Counsellor and became Bishop of London. The family then resided at Fulham Palace in Fulham, London.
In 1841 Fredrick Blomfield (age 18-22) lived at Bishop London Place in Fulham, Middlesex with his father Chls (55-59), mother Derothy (48-52), half-sister Maria (24-48), and three full siblings: Mary (19-23), Alfred (7), and Derothy (5), as well as numerous unrelated people (servants).[2]
Frederick George Blomfield, eldest son of Charles James, bishop of London, matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford on 27 May 1841, aged 18 years. He completed a B.A. in 1845, and an M.A. in 1847. He was rector of St. Andrew Undershaft 1853-1879.[3]
The Rev Frederick George Blomfield, son of the Lord Bishop of London, married Anne Brook, daughter of Esq Charles Brook, on 12 Nov 1857 in Yorkshire. The marriage was registered in Scarborough, Yorkshire in the last quarter of the year.[4] A marriage notice was published in the Yorkshire Gazette on 21 Nov 1857.[5]
Frederick and Anne had six children: Dorothy Frances (Blomfield) Gurney (1858-1932), Katherine Mary (Blomfield) Redmayne (1860-1950), Mary Beatrice Blomfield (1861-1867), Isabel Anne (Blomfield) Lambert (1862-1925), Margaret Helen Blomfield (1864-), and Frederick Charles Blomfield (1865-1931).
In 1861 Frank G Blomfield (age 37, ...) lived at Finsbury Circus in St Stephens Coleman St City of London with his wife Ann (36) and two daughters: Marthy [Dorothy] F (2) and ... [Katherine] M (1), as well as two servants: William Clent (31) and Eliza McQueen (37).[6]
In 1871 Frederick J Blomfield (age 47, Rector of St Andrews) lived in Shanklin, Hampshire with his five children: Dorothy F (12), Katherine M (11), Isabel A (8), Margaret H (7), and Frederick C (5), governess Hester Blake (24), six servants: John Measures (27, Butler), Caroline Norce (23, Cook), Matilda Martin (26, Nurse), Elizabeth Steele (36, Housemaid), Rebecca Martin (24, Kitchen Maid), and Alice Sawyer (20, Nurse), as well as visitor Mary A Barnes (69, Dressmaker).[7] His wife Ann (46) was visiting her brother Arthur Brook in Holbeach, Lincolnshire.
Frederick George Blomfield passed away on 28 Feb 1879, aged 55 years. His death was registered in Barnstable, Devon in the first quarter of the year.[8] "The Will of the Reverent Frederick George Blomfield late of 84 Onslow-gardens in the Parish of St. Mary Abbotts Kensington in the County of Middlesex Clerk Rector of St. Andrew Undershaft in the City of London who died 28 February 1879 at 1 Florence-villas Ilfracombe in the County of Devon was proved at the Principal Registry by Anne Blomfield of 84 Onslow-gardens Widow the Relict and the Reverend Arthur Brook Rector of Hackney in the County of Middlesex Clerk two of the Executors. Personal Estate under £6,000."[9] An obituary was published in the Western Times (Exeter, Devon) on 5 Mar 1879.[10]
