Biography

This profile is part of the Whitmore, Staffordshire One Place Study.

Ann Bloore married Thomas Ash on 22 July 1810 in Stoke on Trent, St Peter Ad Vincula, Staffordshire, England.[1]

In the 1841 census Anne (age 50) was in Whitmore, Staffordshire, England.[2]

In 1849 Ann Ash of Lime Pits attended the Annual meeting of the Whitmore Association.[3]

In 1850 Mrs Ann Ash was listed as a farmer at Lime Pits Whitmore in the Birmingham, Staffordshire & Worcestershire, Kelly's Directory, 1850.[4]

In the 1851 census Ann (age 63) was the widowed visitor of William Ash in Farm Buildings, Wolstanton, Staffordshire, England.[5]

Rowland Mainwaring, landlord of Limpits farm, gave a speech at dinner in Stoke for North Staffordshire Agricultural Society, Mainwaring was president. In his speech Mainwaring talked about Limpits farm: On the 1st November, 1849, his worthy agent Mr George Harding, made his annual report on the state of his farms ... with three exceptions progressing favourably but 3 not rendering 1/3 more than they ought which accounts for their poverty. Limpits had been tenanted for many years by the same family, but the head of that family had become addicted to drinking, and to such extent that, it was needless to add, he neglected his farm and his family, and ultimately died from the effects of his improper conduct, leaving a widow with a large family to struggle on as best they could with very small means. The consequence was that the rents were not forthcoming, the farm depreciated in value, matters became worse and worse, and at length it became necessary for him to take it into his own possession, for in its then impoverished condition it was not worth a tenant's occupation. ....118 acres ... With a new tenant he saw significantly increased productivity.[6]

In the 1861 census Anne (age 78) was the mother-in-law of Thomas Deagle in Penkhull, Staffordshire, England.[7]
