[FN01] Conway, Massachusetts was first settled in 1762 as the southwest portion of Deerfield. The town was eventually separated and was officially incorporated in 1767.
[FN02] The town of Barre, Massachusetts was incorporated on June 17, 1774, as Hutchinson after Thomas Hutchinson, colonial governor of Massachusetts. But on November 7, 1776, it was renamed Barre.
[FN03] Franklin County was not created until 1811. Previously, the area was part of the northern third of Hampshire County.
