Jacob Bonser was born in Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia) about 1795, son of John Bantzer and Elisabeth Bentzel. He married Mary Anderson in 1817 and lived in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he operated a lumber yard and was considered as "an influential citizen and prominent businessman." He was identified as a "merchant" in the 1850 census. Jacob died at Chillicothe in 1853.
