Married Walter Atwood (b act 1848, Vernon, Indiana), 1881, Buchanan, Michigan
Note: Death certificate gives alternate birth date 29 Oct 1858.
Note:: Findagrave links Walter with a profile of Mary with very different dates for birth/death. The photograph is very low resolution, and I believe that record to be in error or possibly for another Mary Atwood but mistaken for the one at that grave.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
John Borders married Carolyn Tryon 7 May 1854 in Berrien, MI (Michigan, County Marriages, 1822-1940 ; Film Number: 002240459, Ancetry.com). Both are named in Mary Atwood's death certificate. A John Borders appears in the 1850 census Division 10, Berrien, MI aged 34 (b abt 1816), birthplace given as Ohio. He is with a Mary Borders, aged 19, and an infant, Anna M. Borders, aged 0. Given Mary's age, they must have been recently married in 1850. A Mary Borders died in Berrien 14 Jan 1854 (Find a Grave). John Borders is, according to the cemetery records, buried next to her, but there is no headstone now. Unfortunately his death date is unknown.
