Someone has a tree with a Cynthia married to a James Bates of New York, and links children using data from the 1870 census: https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-10128-53662634/chrystopher-m-bates-in-1870-united-states-federal-census#fullscreen

But the census says Cynthia is from New York, not Tennessee, so may not be the same Cynthia. Also, I saw a note that she died by 1855, so this would also support her not being the same Cynthia. But we need records to prove where Cynthia was and if she married at all.

James Bates married Cynthia Bostick on November 5, 1846 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Cynthia died before 1855. James and Cynthia are listed on the 1850 Lincoln Co., TN census. They live next door to James' brother Samuel Bates, who married Mary Jane Bostick, sister of Cynthia, James and Samuel Bates were born in Tennessee, according to the census.

It appears there are two Cynthias.....Cynthia Bostick was the daughter of William and Jane Smith Bostick and the granddaughter of Floyd Bostick born around 1758 in Virginia.
