Biography

William was born on 19 March 1878. He was the son of William Bottomley and Sarah Buckley Tweedale. He usually went by his middle name of Cecil.[1]

UK Census Event Date 1881: Living with his parents, three older sisters and two servants in Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, England. Aged 3.

He was educated at Owens College, Manchester, Lancashire, England and at Manchester University, Manchester, Lancashire, England. He was also at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.

He married Alice T Robinson in 1911 in Holborn, London, England.[2]

He was Assistant Under-Secretary of State, Colonial Office between 1927 and 1938.

Cecil was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1930.

He was Senior Crown Agent for the Colonies between 1938 and 1943.

He lived at 1 Wood Road, Wimbledon, London, England,

Cecil died in 1954 at the age of about 76.[3]
