Bridget, daughter of Andrew BOUNS/BOWEN, was born in England in 1832. She married there in 1857[1].
Thomas Rush and his wife Bridget (Bouns/Bowen) Rush left the Port of Liverpool, England, on 11 March 1862 with their daughters, Ann (2) and Margaret (1) aboard the 'Vanguard' bound for Australia. As unassisted passengers, they travelled with 260 other migrants. After a voyage of 104 days, they arrived in Port Phillip (now Melbourne, Victoria).
The family headed for the goldfields of the Upper Goulburn District of Victoria and settled near Woods Point. Here 6 more children were born. Three or 4 years after the youngest child (Catherine) was born in 1873, her mother, Bridget, was arrested and admitted to a mental institution in Kew. Sadly, Bridget died on 14 December 1895[2] after spending the last 18 years of her life in the institution. She was buried at the Boroondara Cemetery, Kew, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. According to the death certificate of Bridget RUSH, her maiden name was 'unknown'. The most likely name, according to the death certificate of her daughter Annie MURPHY, was 'Bridget BOWEN'. The marriage certificate for Bridget and Thomas RUSH clearly shows her surname as 'BOUNS' and her father's name as Andrew BOUNS.
