James Boyle was born about 1841. He was the son of Hugh Boyle, a blacksmith,[1]
and his mother's maiden name was O'Donnell.[2]
At the time of his marriage, he was a farmer and resided in Croaghnashallog,[1]
County Donegal, Ireland. James married Anne McHugh in 1867 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kincasslagh, County Donegal, Ireland.[1]
They moved within a couple of years of marriage to Meenabollagan: James was recorded as a farmer there in 1869 when their daughter Mary was born,[3]
and again in 1874 when their son Connell was born.[4]
The family immigrated to Coatsbridge,[5]
Lanarkshire, Scotland and later to Uphall,[6][7]
West Lothian, Scotland. James was living in Coatbridge with his wife and five children in 1881, employed by the gas works.[5] By 1901 the family were living at Burnetta Cottages, Uphall with their youngest five children.[7]
James was working as a stillman for the oilworks.[7] His youngest son, 14 year old James Jr., worked with him in the oil works while his three older sons all worked in the shale mines that supplied the works.[7]
At the time of James' death in 1902 they were living at Middleton Place in Uphall.[8]
James' death was registered in Uphall Registration District, Scotland in 1902.[2]
He died 15 Apr 1902[8][9]
of paralysis from a cerebral haemorrhage.[8]
The family purchased a private plot (section B, lair 234) in Uphall Cemetery[8][9]
and James was buried there on 17 Apr 1902.[8][9]
