Charles Edwin Boynton was born at Benedicta, Maine, 20 Oct 1842, [1] the son of Richard Boynton and Sarah E. Hunt; [2] [3] died of diabetes at Bangor, Maine, 23 Nov 1893, ae 52y (sic), [4] and is buried in the Sherman Corner Cemetery, Sherman, Maine. [1] [5] [6]

Charles was a farmer, 23 years old, 6'1" tall, with a fair complexion, hazel eyes and brown hair, when he was (somewhat ironically) drafted into Co. B, 1st Maine Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War; mustered out at war's end, 26 May 1865. [7]

He married at Sherman, Maine, 20 Jul 1862, Susan Elizabeth Mitchell. [8]

He was a Civil War veteran of Co. E, 1st Regiment, Maine Veteran Infantry. [1]

Research Notes

The 1850 US census for Golden Ridge Plantation, Benedicta Township, Aroostook County, Maine conducted on 29 July 1850 lists residents Richard Boynton [sic] (41), a farmer, Sarah Boynton (28), Charles E Boynton (8), William H Boynton (5), Philena Boynton (2) and Sarah J Boynton (3 months).

The 1860 US census conducted 2 July 1860 at Township 3, Range 5, Aroostook, Maine lists the residents of a household as Richard Boyington (52), a farmer, Sarah Boyington (39), a housewife, Charles Boyington (18), a clerk, William Boyington (15), a student, Filena [sic] Boyington (12), a student, Sarah J Boyington (10), a student, Richard Boyington (8), a student, Routha [sic] Boyington (5), Niscola [sic] Boyington (3), Edgar Boyington (2), Emeline Boyington (6 months), and Milo Mariman (25), a trader. Richard owns real estate valued at $1000 and has a personal estate valued at $460. Milo has a personal estate valued at $1000.
