Biography

Mary Ann Bradley was born about 1820, probably in Dudley, Worcestershire.

Mary Ann Bradley married Joseph Timmins on 30 September 1838 at the parish church of Kingswinford [Holy Trinity Church, Wordsley] in the county of Staffordshire. Their marriage certificate recorded Joseph was a bachelor of full age and a miner. His father was named as Absalom Timmins, a miner. Mary was a spinster and minor. Her father was named as Joseph Bradley (deceased), also a miner. Both Joseph and Mary stated their residence at the time of marriage was in Brockmoor. Their witnesses were John Boden and Elizabeth Boden. Both women signed with their mark. [1]

From History, Gazetteer and Directory of Staffordshire by William White, Sheffield, 1851 - Brockmoor, a village and district of many scattered houses, about half a mile N of Brierley Hill, gives name to a district parish of more than 3500 souls. [2]

Joseph and Mary had one known child, a daughter named Ann Timmins, born on 25 June 1839 at Porter's-field [street name], Dudley. [3]

Ann was baptised on 11 August 1839 at St. Thomas's Church, Dudley. The family was simply recorded as living in Dudley and Joseph was a miner. Ann's date of birth was recorded in the baptismal register as 25 June 1839. [4]

Mary Ann Timmins died on 6 June 1840 at Porter's field aged 20 years, 11 months of phthisis [tuberculosis]. She was described on her death certificate as the wife of Joseph Timmins, a miner. The informant was her husband Joseph of the same address, who was present at her death. [5]

She was buried on 9 June 1840 at St Thomas Churchyard, Dudley. The baptism register further recorded Mary died on 6 June 1840 aged 20 years. [6]
