Biography

Josiah Breed was born 9 Jan 1709/10. He was the first child of Nathaniel Breed (1685-1760) and Sarah (Davis) Breed (abt.1685-1740).

Research Note

The Breed Family Association, among others, shows that Josiah was a twin with a sister Mary. This is not true as proven in the photo attached to this profile from the Massachusetts Vital Records that shows only Josiah being born.

A Mary Breed is shown in the records of the Second Church of Boston as being baptized on 15 Jan 1709/10 and due to the date, it is an assumption that Mary was baptized shortly after birth and since some of Nathaniel and Sarah's other children were baptized there it was assumed that Mary belonged to them as well. The issue is that Mary's parents are not listed in the records. We know by the records that Nathaniel's cousin Timothy was also in the Boston records so it likely that there were other Breed families living in the same area as not all of the records shown have been associated with Timothy or Nathaniel.

More research to detangle these records are ongoing.
