Velva Pearl was born 23 April 1916 in Byesville to Henry Breeden and Lucy Clark. She was the fifth child of their seven children. Her siblings were Vera, Elsie, Arnold, Eva, Wilma and Larcena. The Breeden family was living in Jackson Township, Guernsey County, in 1920.[1] In 1930, they were living in Washington Township, Coshocton County.[2]
Velva married Clarence Birkhimer on 28 October 1935 in Ohio County, West Virginia.[3] Their first son, Jackie, was stillborn in May 1936. In 1940, Clarence and Velva were living in Dresden with their 2-year-old son Charles.[4] They would have five more children: Jerry, Bonnie, Kenny, Trudy and Julie.
Velva died in her sleep on 3 January 1993 at her home in Dresden.[5] Burial was in Dresden Cemetery.[6] Clarence followed his wife three months later.
