Biography

William was Christened on 26 June 1804 in Tenterden, Kent, England. His father was Daniel Breeds and his mother was Sarah Breade Friend.[1] William had a difficult life. On 15 Mar 1824 he was convicted, at Maidstone, of stealing lead, affixed to a building. He was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment on the Retribution prison hulk anchored at Woolwich. He was pardoned on 19 May 1828.[2][3] In about 1838 he married Jane Miles, the natural daughter of Sarah Miles, a travelling woman. They had three daughters and two sons. In 1851 he was living at Maidstone, Kent, as a lodger, with his wife, Jane, and his children, Emily, Mary Anne, Hannah and John. He was described as an agricultural labourer.[4] He died during the fourth quarter of 1859 at Maidstone, Kent.[5]
