Elisabeth Margaretha (Bretthauer) Giesick has German Roots.

Elisabeth Margarethe Bretthauer was born on 7 Dec 1865 in Walter, Saratov, Volga, Russia to Johann Georg Bretthauer and Anna Elisabeth Beck.[1][2]

Elizabeth married Conrad Giesick in 1887 in Russia[1] and together they had nine children. Six were living by the 1910 census in Colorado.

  • Walter census records only go until 1857 and her birth would be after the census.
  • Family member Helen Rohn Hickman has church records verifying date of birth.
  • Find A Grave profile 65221534 has possibly been updated with family member links. There is no photo available to look at headstone but there is a grave location.[3]
  • Ship manifest records indicate a birth date of 1866, which matches the date on Find A Grave.
  • 1910 CO census indicates a birth date of 1874 (a 9 year difference).

  • Death certificate or full obituary necessary. No obituary available on Family Search of even on Ancestry Tree family sites.
  • Headstone photo of 65221578 Find A Grave may be the actual headstone as she went by Lissie or Lizzie. Her middle name cannot be accurately verified without a death certificate or birth record.
  • Searching directly on GIS, Blk 7, lot 35, spc 221 from 65221534 shows the Gesick headstone of 65221578. I sent a message to Find A Grave to review both profiles and merge them if indeed same person.

Research Notes

Note by: Koreen Goodman 22 Sep 2018, updated 23 Jan 2020

  • Two Find A Grave Memorials on this profile are necessary as I believe the 65221578 is the actual headstone and person and 65221534 could be a profile that someone entered information to but no headstone photo. Most likely the two require research and a merge.
  • I went to Linn Grove GIS cemetery records online and looked through all Brethauer and Giesicks/Gesicks. When I type in all Gesicks as the spelling of 578, it does not come up. Locating the actual grave by GIS shows the headstone of the other profile. I sent a message to Find A Grave regarding the two profiles. http://greeleygov.com/services/linn-grove [Search burials]
  • Weld County Master Index listings do not list anything under Giesick for her but do list the grave for Lizzie Gesick (no e): Gesick/Giesick Search
  • Several DNA matches in Ancestry.
