Mary was said to have been the daughter of Francis Brewster and his wife Sarah Ludlow.[1] Her nominal life span, 1671-1750, appeared on a joint cemetery memorial for her husband Jonathan and other Owen family members; said life span was probably intended as her husband's, not Mary's. [1]They had 5 sons and 2 daughters [1] including:
A genealogy of the Owen family of Long Island by James Hook appeared in TAG 30: 129 et seq. (1954). Citing a family history written ca. 1900 or later, it said Mary, wife of Jonathan Owen of Brookhaven, was the daughter of Nathaniel Brewster and Sarah Ludlow. The family tradition dated back at least to 1857 when a grave marker was installed that rendered the maiden name of Jonathan Owen’s wife Mary as Brewster. Per said TAG article, Jonathan Owen owned property adjacent to that of John Muncy, husband of Hannah (Brewster) in 1691 when Muncy made his oral will and summoned Jonathan Owen as a witness (but that is hardly proof of kinship). The parentage is marked as uncertain here because it is based on family tradition and not contemporaneous records.
