Biography

Jane Brinton was born in Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana on the 2 Mar 1827. She came to Putnam County, Indiana in 1830 as one of 11 children of Bryant Brinton, Jr. and his wife Mary "Polly" Tharp. In the 1850 census, Jane said she was born in KY, 1860 census Indiana, , 1870 census Kentucky and lastly, 1880 she was born in Kentucky. Tarvin Wright, her son, stated in the 1910 census that his mother was born in Kentucky. She married Brinton Wright on 26 Jan 1847 in Putnam County, Indiana. Brinton and Jane were first cousins and had to elope to marry or so family lore has it. Jane Brinton Wright being the daughter of Bryant and Mary (Tharp) Brinton, Jr. was the granddaughter of Bryant Brinton, Sr as was her husband, Rev. Brinton Wright. Rev. Brinton was the son of Samuel Wright and his wife, Jane Brinton. Jane Brinton and Bryant Brinton, Jr. were brother and sister, both children of Bryant Brinton, Sr. and Jane Burns, his wife.

Rev. Brinton and Jane Wright were married 45 years before his death. She survived him by 18 years. During that time, she was active in their church and helping to raise her youngest grandchild, Flonnie Bell Wright. Six sons lived to adulthood, namely, Flonnie used to live with her grandmother during the school year and in the winter months would sleep in the kitchen which she said was the warmest room in the house. Jane and Brinton Wright share a large obelisk monument in Manhattan Cemetery, which has her information on one side and his on the other. So as in life they shared everything, so they did in death.
