Alexander J. Brooks was born April 1813 in Tazewell, Virginia, the son of Thomas Brooks and Catharine Clancy.

He married Mary Ann Pritchet on 20 April 1856 in Virginia.[1]
Alexander is mentioned in his father's August 1859 Will.[2]
Alexander J. Brooks enlisted in the CSA, Company K, Virginia 45th Infantry Regiment on 27 January 1863 in Smyth Co., Virginia,[3][4]
