David Lafayette Brown was born 3 April 1837 in Haywood (now Jackson) County, North Carolina, to Henry Brown and Mary Hooper. He and Charlotte Minerva Grist were married about 1866. He died 15 November 1873 in Towns County, Georgia, and is buried in Ivy Mount Cemetery.[1]

His tombstone gives his year of death as 1867, but he appears on the 1870 census, and his estate was probated in 1873.
