Biography

Jessie Alberta "Goldie" Brown was born about 1915 in Missouri to Jess Brown and Mamie (McReynolds) Brown. In 1920, at age 5, she was living with J E and Mamie Brown in York Township, Putnam County, Missouri, in 1920.^[1] The family was still living there as of 1 April 1930.^[2]

On 31 December 1930, Goldie Brown married Roy Pauley, son of John and Cora (Callison) Pauley, at Centerville, Iowa. Goldie reported that she was 19 years old and born and lived in Powersville, Iowa.^[3] While she may have moved to Powersville (about 125 miles from York), she was closer to 16 than 19. Their daughter, Cora Ellen, was born in July 1931 in Missouri.^[4]

The couple separated before June 1939 when John Leroy Pauley married Goldie Eileen Hursey.^[5] No marriage record has been found so far for Goldie (Brown) Pauley and Lyle Raines but they do appear together in the 1940 Census. Daughter Cora Ellen, living with Goldie and Lyle in 1940,^[6] identified her parents as John L Pauley and Jessie A Brown when she applied for a Social Security account in 1947.^[7]

Goldie was living in Kansas City, Missouri, when her father died in 1969.^[8] She died in 1976 and was buried in Weesner Cemetery, Ravanna, Mercer County, Missouri, where she shares a gravestone with Lyle.^[9]

No records found at FamilySearch or Ancestry for the original name and relationships as imported from the GEDCOM: Jessie Alberta Pauley born about 1900 marrying a Mr. Brown. The Kayla1800.ged GEDCOM file used to create this profile is full of profiles for the Raines family of Missouri. A high number of the original Last Names at Birth (LNAB) have been either Unknown or inaccurate. I did find a Find A Grave: Memorial #30472547 with an image of a gravestone for Jessie A and Lyle D Raines. The name on the memorial page is Jessie Alberta "Goldie" Brown Raines born 1914. The linked profiles match those found in some Ancestry Trees (examples: Ancestry Profile and Ancestry Profile) that have Goldie Brown marrying John Leroy Pauley and later Lyle Dewey Raines.
