Charles Gibson Brown has Scottish Ancestors.

Charles Gibson Brown was born on 13 June 1857. He was the eldest son and one of at least six children of Thomas Gibson Brown (abt.1826-1873) and Isabella Moore Bathgate (1834–1925) who were early pioneers living at Williams River in the Colony of New South Wales. His father was at one time a builder and contractor in the area now known as Newcastle. His mother was from Scotland. She had arrived in the Colony with her parents in 1852 on board the Hamilton Cambpell Kidston. Charles' birth was registered in 1857 in the district of Newcastle.[1]

In 1871, the Brown family left Williams River and headed north to Clarence River. From there, they went to Alstonville where they selected land and settled at Duck Creek. There they started a storekeeping business. Goods were brought to the Richmond River by sailing vessels to Ballina and then boated up to Chilcott's wharf at Duck Creek, which cost 30s to £2 per ton, and the merchandise was then carried by pack horses over bush tracks to their destination. His father died two years after the family arrived Alstonville.

His mother remained in Alstonville for many years. However, Charles left the district to pursue a career as a mine manager. In 1909, he was living in Scarborough, south of Sydney.

Charles died on March 27, 1909 in Scarborough, New South Wales, aged 51.[2]

IN MEMORIAM.
BROWN. — In loving remembrance of Charles Gibson Brown, who departed this life on March 27th, 1909, at Scarbor-ough, South Coast.
A precious one has gone from us,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love had given,
And though the body lingers here
His soul is safe in heaven.
Inserted by his loving brother and sister-in-law, A. and E. A. Brown, Pimlico. [4]
