Biography

James Brown (Sr.) was baptized on 19 December 1718 at Colvend, Kirkcudbright, Scotland. He was the son of William Brown (1692- ) and Elizabeth 'Bessey' Ronald (1695- ).

Little is known about James and Margaret at this time excepting for the spare information about his birth, parents and immediate family. He met and married Margaret McKitrick (1720-1768) while living in Kirkcudbright County, Scotland where they had the following known children who lived until adulthood, most of whom emigrated to America:
