Jonathan Brown was born, probably in Westchester County, New York, c1770, the son of James Brown; died at Lower Brighton, New Brunswick, 1838, and is buried in the Lower Brighton Cemetery;

married Rebecca Cogswell, born at Cornwallis, Nova Scotia (obituary), 11 Feb 1783 (FindAGrave), the daughter of Elihu Cogswell and Rebecca Howland; died at Lower Brighton, 28 Jun 1867, and buried with her husband in the Lower Brighton Cemetery.

In 1803, he and his family are recorded in the District next above the Parishes of Woodstock and Northampton, extending to the River De Chute.

Wife's obituary:
d. Lower Brighton (Carleton Co.) 28th June, Rebecca widow of late Jonathan BROWN, age 85, left 12 children, 60 grand children, 40 great grandchildren. She was a native of Cornwallis, N.S. Nearly 60 years ago she came with her husband to the neigborhood where she resided during her life. She united with the F.C. Baptist Church 37 years ago in Lower Brighton.[5]
