Biography

Jesse was a Civil War soldier 5th Infantry Confederate Army.His unit was at Camp Brown at Union City. They saw action at Shiloh,Murfreesboro,Chattanooga. While in the service his 1st wife Susan Harrison became ill with smallpox.He heard she was at the point of death,so he deserted the Army to care for her but by the time he arrived home she was already dead. They married April 7,1864 only to be wed just a few months before her death. He married Mary Jane Woods Sept 21,1868 they moved to to a small farm at Dyer,Gibson County Tennessee. They sold milk and butter he had regular routes he would take each morning. His parents Jesse and Tabatha Adams Bruce lived near Mcillwain,Benton County,TN and are buried in Mcillwain Cemetery on land that he left in his will to be used as the cemetery. His siblings were Delonia(Tippitt),Mary(Mcillwain),Roeny Lorena(Cox),Martha(Barr)John,Emaline(Gulley).

Jesse and Mary Jane children are Ethel(White),Albert,Joe,Unknown Girl(Rogers). Jesse Henderson Bruce was left 300.00 in his father's will.
