James Madison was born May 6, 1806 in Franklin County, Kentucky[1][2] to the parents of Daniel Brumley and Racheal Patterson. He was the second oldest of seven children.
For a short period of time James , age 11, moves with his family to Campbell, Wayne, Illinois, starting out the journey between 1810 and 1817 and on the way to Illinois they made a stop in Indiana where his younger brother Patterson Carol Brumley was born. They continued on to Illinois. James’s mother Racheal Patterson died when he was 18, she had passed not long after the birth of his youngest sister JJulia Ann.[1]
Sometimes in the year of 1824 (birth of PIlot) James and family traveled back to Tavern Creek area of Miller Co. Missouri.
It was here in Miller Co. Missouri that James, age 25, met Diannah Belyeu age 15, daughter of Isaac Bilyeu and Mary Ann Workman . The Bilyeu family were one of the early settlers in Miller Co.,Missouri.(see Judge Jenkins' History of Miller County). James took Diannah Belyeu as his wife January 12 1832 in Crawford Co., Missouri.[3] They had eight children over the years.[4][2]
James bought his first 80 acres with partner Peter Bilyeu in September 10, 1844, Miller County, Sec. 11.[5] Peter Bilyue was the older brother of Diannah. Land was located Brusy Fork Creek NE of Brumley, MO. The land was granted under Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat. 566).
In May[6] and October 1845[7] James bought another 120 acres Sale-Cash Entry (3 Stat. 566) on his own, most likely from profits made from his earlier partnership with Peter. The land purchase in May was located between Brushy Creek and Barren Fork Creek. Later in December[8] he added another 40 acres just south of Iberia. June 1 another 80 acres[9] was added just south of Springfield, bringing in the total of 280 acres.
James and family was found in Arkansas about 1847, date taken from the birth of his daughter Nancy Marilla Brumley . I believe he traveled with Pilot as Pilot was shown in Arkansas at least by 1850. James returned back to Miller Co., Missouri by 1853 for the birth of his 6th child Margaret Jane Brumley .
After 30 years of marriage, Diannah passed leaving James a widow for 11 years before he died February 23, 1872. He was laid to rest next to his wife in McCoy Cemetery, Christian County, Missouri.[10][11]
