Celia was born in 1909. She passed away in 1994.
In 1921, she was living next door to Gordon MacKenzie's family, under the name Hillman. [1] Frank Hillman, the head of the household, was her grand-father.
Celia Hillman married Gordon MacKenzie, in 1928. [2]
History of Baltic says "Gordon MacKenzie, of The Baltic, married Cecila Hillman, daughter of Frank Hillman, and operated the mill for a short time until his death at an early age in 1926. "
It was Frank Hillman who died in 1926. He left most of his estate to his son Earl, and a small bequest to his daughter Natals Hillman.
Celia's only brother Earl died in 1929. [3]
Celia, born 1909, and Gordon were living with their three boys in 1931. [4] Gordon died in 1932. [5]
Celia MacKenzie, a widow, married William Hunter in 1933. [6]
"William (Bill) is the great-grandson of Thomas and Agnes Hunter. He was born in 1907 at Indian River, the son of Ella Retta (Reeves) Hunter and George Thomas Hunter. In 1933, on marrying Cecelia Hillman MacKenzie, (who had been living at the mill) he moved to the Baltic. At this time she was a widow with three small sons: Harold, Earle, and David. Later additions to their family in- cluded Jean, Eileen, Mary, and George."
Her gravestone said Mary Cecelia. Doesn't seem to be in the PEI Baptismal Index under Byrenton or Hillman. Born 1909 in the 1921 and the 1931 Census, can't find in 1911.
Was Frank married to Isabella - perhaps Celia was technically a Bryanton. Transcription says he was divorced, and Isabella was either a daughter or a partner. Difficult to read.
In a Hillman family story - "Earl Hillman b. 1906-1910, d. 1929, buried in Malpeque cemetery, no stone, connected with rum running, name may appear as Bryanton. Hillman, Earl Summerside Journal - 19 August 1929, page 1, col. 4 "The body was identified as that of Mr. Hillman by his brother-in-law, Mr. Gordon MacKenzie" Earl, under Earl Hillman or Earl Bryanton, was not in J Clinton Morrison's book about prohibition on PEI, Booze. According to the newspaper, Earl was a well-respected citizen of Baltic.
