She was the last surviving member of a pioneer family of this section. Before her marriage she was Miss Pauline Elizabeth Buckner, daughter of Col. and Mrs. Ezra Buckner of Maynardville. Her father was one of the founders of Union county, having taken a leading part in the establishment of the county when the territory was sparsely settled. It was first suggested that the county be named in honor of Colonel Buckner, but he declined the honor, and suggested the name Union county. Colonel Buckner was a soldier in the war of 1812.
