William was born in 1856 and baptised on 1 June 1856 in Kenton, Devon, England. He was the son of William and Eliza Bulley.[1]
In the 1861 census William (age 4) was living in Kenn, Devon, England with his parents and 2 younger sisters. His father's occupation was recorded as servant.[2]
In the 1871 census William (age 14) was living with his parents and siblings in Kenn, Devon, England. He was working as a stable boy. [3]
In June 1874 William (age 18) was living in Exeter and working for the Great Western Railway Company.[4]
William married Louisa Gale on 3rd April 1879 in Exeter, Devon. Both were resident in the St David's parish of Exeter at the time of the marriage. William was working as a railway porter and Louisa as a servant. N.B. Louisa's name is recorded as Lucy on the marriage certificate. William and Louisa were first cousins (Louisa's father Jame Gale and William's mother Eliza Gale were siblings) [5]
In the 1881 census Louisa and William were living at Exe View Terrace in the St Thomas area of Exeter, Devon with their young son (also named William Henry). William was still working as a railway porter. [6]
In the 1891 census Louisa and William were now living at 107 Clifton St in the St Sidwell area of Exeter, Devon. William was still a railway porter and they now had 5 children. [7]
In the 1901 census Louisa and William were living at 28 Hoopern St, St David's, Exeter with 5 children (a younger son had joined the family and an older son was no longer at home). [8]
William died at the age of 47 on 20 January 1904 in Devon, England. He is buried at St David's church, Exeter. [9]
