Charles Burgoyne Bulley was born in 1831 in Cornworthy, Devon, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of William Bulley (1805-1863) and Charlotte Lock Burgoyne (1802-1875).

The family migrated to New South Wales (Australia) on the 'Ganges', arriving in June, 1842[1].

Charles first married Mary Burns in 1857 in Manning River[2].

They had children:

Charles and Mary divorced in 1881[3] and they both remarried new spouses in 1882.

Charles married Betsey Hawke in Wingham in 1882[4].

He died in 1904 in Wingham, New South Wales[5] and is buried in Wingham cemetery[6].
