Donald Rex Burch, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at his home in Syracuse.
He was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Scott City, to Lewis Henry and Lillian Frances Page Burch. In 1940, the family moved to rural Hamilton County.
On Feb. 8, 1967, he married Bette J. Goddard in Syracuse. They lived five miles northwest of Syracuse. She died Sept. 29, 2007. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Henry "Bill" Burch; a sister, Betty Lue Shetterly; and a stepgrandson, Marshal A.J. Greening.
Mr. Burch worked for many years at the Co-op Elevator before becoming the noxious weed director for Hamilton County, retiring in 2003 after 31 years of service. His part-time work included farming and also working with his son, Dave, in the gun business. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when it also involved shooting guns, fishing, camping and his dogs. A gun enthusiast, he served as president of the Hamilton County Bullet & Bow Gun Club and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne Susan Breard of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Dixie Ann Senestraro of Johnson City, Donna Kay Carr of Syracuse, and Amy Elizabeth Burch of Alton, Mo.; two sons, Mark Alan Flowers and David Lew Burch, both of Syracuse; a sister, Edna Mae Thompson of Kendall; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral was at the Wesleyan Church, Syracuse. Burial was followed in Syracuse Cemetery.
