The London Gazette No. 36079 dated 6 July 1943 quotes the following citation for the award of the D.F.C. to the then Flying Officer Cyril Wallace Burcher R.A.A.F.
"This officer has completed numerous sorties during which he has attacked 10 U boats. In his last engagement in June 1943, Flying Officer Burcher pressed home his attack with great determination in the face of severe gunfire from the vessel. His keenness and ability have been reflected in the high standard of operational efficiency of his crew".

Cyril worked for the Commonwealth Bank and due to the nature of his work, the family moved regularly and lived in various locations in Australia [2].

Beverly and Cyril enjoy life together spending time with family and going on many holidays around Australia and the world. Beverley passed away on the 18th of September 2010 in Brisbane [2].
