Catherine “Cathi” Lee Burdan was born in 1946 in Muskogee, Oklahoma . She was the daughter of William Lee Burden and Imogene Kelley. Cathi graduated from Muskogee High School in 1964. She worked as a cosmetologist for several years.

Cathi married Stephen Scherer on 10 May 1971. Cathi had one son, Shawn, before their marriage. She and Steve had two more children. Cathi passed away on 17 Oct 2016.
