Biography
Wendell was born on May 18, 1918 in Gotebo, OK. He was the second of three sons born to Buell David and Mary Ann (Oursler) Burdick. He was preceded in death by his father in 1961; his mother and brother, Ken, just two days apart in 1976; an infant great-grandson, David, in 1992; and brother, Don, in 1995.
Upon his parents' divorce, he moved to Battle Creek, MI with his mother and brothers in 1922.
He first married Doris Matilda Hoeck on Dec. 29, 1939. They had two sons and divorced about 1944.
He served in the Army for over three years beginning May, 1944. During that time, he served in several campaigns and had been seriously wounded in action. He earned two bronze service stars and a Purple Heart.
His second marriage was to Elizabeth "Liz" Horosko on Oct. 19, 1946. They had two children. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1982.
His final marriage was to Marjorie "Margie" (Miller) Madsen on Oct. 6, 1984.
Wendell passed away on April 3, 2005 at Battle Creek Health System in Battle Creek, MI. His remains are interred alongside wife Liz's at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek.
