John was born in 1813 in England.[1] He died in 1864.[2] John married Elizabeth King in 1846.[3]
He was convicted of Sheep Stealing in March 1832 at age 21 in Essex, England, and sentenced to Life. The sentence was commuted to transportation and he travelled on the York Ship in August 1832 from England to Van Diemen's Land.
According to his prison register, he had been in prison 3 times prior to his conviction which led to transportation, and his character was "very bad".[4]
His physical description, when he arrived as a prisoner included his height as 5'7 1/2", Brown hair, brown eyebrows, blue eyes, large head.
John was granted a Ticket of Leave in 1844. He was granted a Conditional Pardon in 1848.
In 1850 he was the victim of an assault at Kangaroo Bottom. In 1857 he was charged with stealing 2 wooden doors from a neighbour.
John Married Elizabeth King, a fellow convict in 1846 in Tasmania[5] the couple had about 10 known children.
John passed away, aged 53 in 1864 of Stomach Cancer.[6]
