Biography

John was born in March 1918 at 57 Bell Terrace, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England, UK. He was the son of Thomas Burlinson and Matilda (Holmes) Burlinson.[1]

John was a leading signalman in the Royal Navy. Service number: PJX142027. On 15 October 1943 he was given a mention in despatches in the London Gazette.[2] A soldier mentioned in dispatches (or despatches) (MID) is one whose name appears in an official report written by a superior officer and sent to the high command, in which is described the soldier's gallant or meritorious action in the face of the enemy. In the British Armed Forces, the despatch is published in the London Gazette. Soldiers of the British Empire or the Commonwealth of Nations who are mentioned in dispatches but do not receive a medal for their action, are nonetheless entitled to receive a certificate and wear a decoration.[3] According to Forces War Records, he was serving on HMS Snowflake at the time of the award.[4] He was awarded the War Medal 1939-1945, and the 1929-45 Star.

John married Rebecca Jane Buchanan on 1 August 1942 at Clooney Hall Methodist, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.[5]

Between 1945 and 1955, according to 6 electoral register records, John (age 27-37) was living at 36 Woodstock Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[6][7][8][9][10][11]

Between 1956 and 1968, according to electoral registers, John (age about 38-50) was living at 49 Kirkwood Drive, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[12][13][14]

Between 1969 and 1972, according to electoral registers, John was living at 12 Hazeley Grove, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[15][16][17][18]

John died at the age of about 92 on 14 May 2010 in Newcastle upon Tyne.[19]
