Jane Burnie was born on 24 June, 1801 and baptised on 5 July 1801 in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, the daughter of James Birnie and Catherine Carmichael.[1]
Jane (24) married David Ritchie (24) (born on January 16, 1801 in Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland; son of David Ritchie and Margaret Sellars) on September 3, 1825 in Greenock.[2]

Jane was living at 3 Shaw St, Greenock at the time of the 1851 Census as the head of the household. She was working as a Washer and Dresser. Also in the home were her sons, James (13) and Duncan (9), her nephew, John Leitch (29) and James Adams, a lodger. It is likely her husband was at sea. [3]
At the time of the 1861 Census, David and Jane were living at 50 Shaw St, Greenock, with their son, Duncan (19). David was a mariner, and their son, Duncan an apprentice blacksmith. Also in the home were lodgers, Emily Foster and Peter McGovern.[4]
Neither David or Jane can be found on the 1841 or 1871 census records.
Jane died in 1877 in Greenock, aged 75. [5]
