Benoni Burroughs/Burrowes, son of Christopher Burrows and Mary Soames, was born about 1640/41 in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia.

Benoni Burroughs can be traced through some land transactions in Virginia:^[1]

• Benony Burroughs, 150 acres in Princess Anne County neare the north branches of Currituck, adjacent to the lands of Peter Crashley. Granted to Darmon Michael on 22 November 1682 but deserted and now granted to Benony Burroughs by order and for the transportation of 3 persons. [Patent Book 8, page 275 April 29, 1693]
• Will of Robert Hodge, Lower Norfolk County, Book 4, page 79-80-81 mentions his friend Bennoni Burroughs who lives in the southside of ye Chancell in Linhaven Church...and continues on to give Bennoni Burroughs and his heirs "halfe of ye Tract of Land, paten'd in ye name of anthony Lawson & my Selfe, wch Land is called by ye name of Chester ....fforrest...my great Kearsey Coat lined with red serge and ten yards of Docoles linnen out of my great Chest in ye Store....Ben Burrough was a witness to the Will.
• 22 Oct 1671 Book 6, page 379: 944 Acres Lower Norfolk County, Lynhaven Parish, near head of Bennett's Creek, No of Adam Thorowgood on the N. side of a beaver pond formerly called Nedham Marsh; adj. Lambert and that was sd. Thorowgood and now Wm. Smith's 590 acres part granted to Fra. Yardly 4. 28 July 1648, sold to Christopher Burrough, 1 Jun 1652 and due to Benoni as heir to Christopher.
• October 20, 1688 - Patent Book 7, page 676: Argall Thorough, patented 700 acres in Lynhaven Parish - a part of 150 acres granted to Christopher Burroughs on Nov 7, 1651 and now by his son and heire, Benoni Burroughs.

Benoni Burroughs was Burgess from Princess Anne County, Virginia, in 1695-99.^[2] In May 1699, Col. Anthony Lawson, Mr. Benony Burroughs, Mr. John Throrowgood and Mr. Edward Mosely were appointed Justices of Princess Anne County.^[3]

Death & Legacy

Will of Benony Burrough/Burroughs was written 4 December 1700 and proved in March 1705, Princess Anne County, Virginia.^[1]
I, Benony Burrough being of sound mind and weak body, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, leaving my soul to God, and after my just debts be paid to desire my body to be interred in the earth whatever manner my executors see fit.
  Item: My plantation whereon I now live to my Esteemed son Christopher, I say of plantation and two hundred and fifty acres of land, .....illegible....belonging it is including......whole Dam wch Soe ford at the great Dam Ridge and from Thomas......illegible...by Dorach......line to make ye whole to be five hundred and fifty acres to him in .......illegible.....I own and to his heirs Forever, after the Death of his mother, but Liberty to seat on any part thereof in the meantime.
  And to all the rest of my sd land I bequeath to my other sons viz: Robt and Bena. And to their heirs forever to be by them equally divided. It is my will the Land be equally divided by themselves and being soe divided to draw lotts for the first choice and he that shall have the last choice to have...one hundred and fifty acres of Land at Muddy Creek belonging to my by pattent to my three aforesd sons. I give all my Books excepting such as their mother shall make choice for her own use the rest to be Equally divided by their Mother and to be delivered to them as She please and that to be their full part of my Estate. To my Three daughters viz: Mary, Barbary, and Eliz bth viz: I give my three negroes viz: Sarah betty and Moll to my daughter Mary I give Sarah to my daughter Barbary I give betty and Moll to my daughter Eliz bth. To each of my aforesd three daughters I give a Bible and that be each of their part of my Estate. All the .....illegible..and rest of my estate be of......illegible...nature or quality soever I give and bequeath unto my loving Wife Mary whome I make my whole and Sole Executive of this my last Will and Testament to Say during her Natural Life but after her death, to be finally divided between my Six Children. I mean my Estate what I have it shall be then left and revoking all former wills by me made and Fashom:
all........illegible......and declaring this to be my last will and testament. In witness thereunto I have hereunto sett my hand and fixed My Seale this 4th of 10ber 1700.
