Biography

Caroline (Busbee) Stevens was an Alabamian.

Lucinda Caroline Elizabeth Busbee, daughter of William Busby and Elizabeth Key, was born in Alabama in 1835.[1] In 1850 she was still 14 when she was counted on the census with them as "Carline," living in Walker County, Alabama.[2] The census is difficult to read and the family may have been indexed as Bustin, Bu?tia, or Busbee. The household included her parents, William 48, and Elizabeth 47; older siblings Elizabeth 21, William 20, and Hudson 17; "Carline" was 14; and younger siblings Martin 12, Louisa 10, Tibs 9, Milenday 9, Meredith 5, Maryanne 3, and Joshua 2. All were born in Alabama. Her father and two older brothers were farmers.

Adam Joel Stevens of Georgia and Lucinda Caroline Busbee were married in Alabama about 1855.

Their known children were:

  1. Nancy E. Stevens (1856)
  2. Abram J. Stevens (1857)
  3. William D. Stevens (c.1858)
  4. Jane Stevens (c.1866)
  5. Adam Joel Harvey Stevens (c.1868)
  6. Rose Sisaline Stevens (c.1875)

They were counted on the census in Jefferson County, Alabama in 1860 with their first three children at home.[3] Twenty years later, in 1880, they were still living in Alabama, but in Lawrence County, with their last three children at home.[4] By 1900 they'd moved west to Coryell, Texas, and were living with their son Adam and his family.[5] By 1920 she was widowed. She was counted on the census with her son's family, now in Hazel Township, Tillman, Oklahoma, United States.[6]

She died 18 October 1921 in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma, and is buried in Frederick Memorial Cemetery in Frederick, Oklahoma.[1]
