Biography

Allen was born in 1770. He passed away in 1846. His parents were Daniel Butler and Barbara (Austin) Butler.

Research Notes

Find a grave states Allen's parents were Daniel and Barbara (Austin) BUTLER. and birth date and place 14 May 1771 in Vermont. Marriage to Susanna Borden on 23 Jan. 1794.

Brown in the History of Tioga county - "Allen Butler, a native of Vermont, and father of the late Rev. Selden Butler, of Deerfield township, a prominent Free Baptist minister, settled in 1817 near Stony Fork."

Brown page 724: Allen Butler, a native of Vermont, bom May 14, 1771, married Susanna Borden, of New Hampshire, and in 1817 came to Tioga county, Pennsylvania, and settled on the present Butler farm in Delmar township. Here he resided until his death, January 9, 1846. His wife died January 15, 1850. They were the parents of nine children, named as follows: Belinda, Betsey, Allen, Hartford, Wellman, Eunice, Dolly, Selden and Crete.

Hayward on page 280 lists 10 children for Allen and Susanna Butler. Their eldest child was Susan who married Calvin Brown and died in Oak Hill, New York,

Hayward gives Allen's birth place as Monson, Mass 14 May 1770

Hayward states Allen's father as Daniel Butler residing Monson, Mass. Daniel Butler's children were Sarah, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Joseph (died in Delmar, PA), Allen, Anna (married John Borden) and a daughter who married Nathan Warner residing in Monson, Mass.

Kingsbury lists 11 children for Allen & Susanna Butler. This list includes a set of twins Providence (stillborn) & Susanna, Belinda, Betsy, Allen, Hartford, Wellman, Eunice, Dolly, Selden, & Crete

Tice has a transcript of a family bible belonging to Daniel & Barbara (Austin) Butler listing nine of their children: Samuel, William, Anna, Daniel, Hannah, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Allen, & Joseph. [1]

Tice includes a copy of a record brought into Tioga County by Selden Butler 1806—1888 for Allen Butler and his wife Susanna listing their 11 children and their journey from New Hampshire to Pennsylvania: Providence & twin sister Susanna, Belinda, Betsy, Allen, Hartford, Wellman, Eunice, Dolly, Selden, & Crety. Allen's sister Hannah Butler married Nathan Warriner in Monson, Mass. Several of their children relocated to Tioga County, PA and lived near Allen. Allen's youngest daughter Lucretia Butler married James Warriner.
