In 1991, John Moorehead, one time President and Historian of the CRCA voted Horrie Cameron as Cricketer of the Decade for the 1950's.
...
Horrie played cricket in our District for 32 years. He started out in Grafton in the High School 2nd XI in the CRCA Competition in the 1926/27 at the age of 11.
He represented North Coast from 1931 to 1937, and during that time played for Grafton, Lismore, Nimbin and Coffs Harbour.During that time in the North Coast squads he topped both the Batting and Bowling Aggregates and Averages for 6 consecutive years.
In 1940 he travelled to Country Week in Sydney.Country Week was a carnival designed at getting Country kids to the City so there cricket skills could be scouted by the much stronger City clubs.Horrie was only 15 at the time.
In the early 40's he followed his calling as many young Aussies did an he joined the Australian Infantry Force.Whilst in the AIF he was instrumental in several wins over the corresponding English and New Zealand Defence Force teams.
In a series played whilst on R&R in 1941 he scored 59 against New Zealand and took 5 for 20 against an English team.
The next 10 or so years saw Horrie move away from the Grafton, but when he did return he fought very hard for the Zoning rules to be enforced and was instrumental in making that happen.
Horrie did play cricket through all of his time whilst on the CRCA Executive and in 1953/54 season took out the CRCA Batting Aggregate and Bowling Aggregate with 53 wickets.
Once the zoning was introduced he became Treasurer for 2 years.During this time he was also a North Coast and CRCA Selector.
CRICKETER'S ARM BROKEN.
COFF'S HARBOUR, Wednesday
Horace Cameron, one of the best all-round cricketers on the North Coast, received a double fracture of the left forearm while loading timber with a hand crane at Brooklana this afternoon. The brake on the crane failed while Cameron was lifting a sling of timber, and he was lifted off his feet by the handle and carried round in a circle before being thrown to the ground. He was admitted to Coff's Harbour Hospital.
