Cathryn R." Kaye" Smith, age 84, of (Lake Camelot) Mapleton, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at her residence. She was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Mt. Vernon to Elvis and Mabel R. Foster Campbell. Cathryn married Harry D. Smith on Jan. 14, 1949, in Peoria. He preceded her in death in 2007. Cathryn was a U.S. Navy veteran serving at the Oakland, Calif., Naval Supply Base in 1944 and 1945. She was employed as a telephone operator and receptionist at WABCO in Peoria for 25 years before her retirement in 1984. Cathryn was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria, VFW Bartonville Post 3883 and Peoria Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her sons, Michael D. (Linda L.) Smith of Galesburg and David R. (Karen L.) Smith of Morton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, with the Rev. Karl Eckhoff officiating. Visitation will be one hour before. Entombment will be in American Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 2020 W. Malone, Peoria, IL 61605.
